One of the varieties of the wooden txalaparta is the txalaparta made from stone, named “Harriparta”.
We avoid this expression as it takes away the sense of onomatopoeia regarding to the word txalaparta, so we prefer the term stone txalaparta or “Harri Txalaparta”. The stone « Txalaparta » is generaly described as so :
- Two trestles placed on the ground as a surport;
- several stones (often slate) of different sizes and irregular forms are placed on a padded insolent(generally in foam). The stones are chosen for their sound and note abilities. After the xylophone, the metalophone, we have the petraphone…. derived from the txtalaparta towards some thing else? The txalapartaris use 4 sticks (makilak) to hit the stones giving a mineral sound more or less treble, the tones depend on their size, sometimes pads are put on the bottom of the makila to soften the sound.(Oreka TX)
